Pastor’s Weekly E-Mail – July 6, 2014

Wishes for Summer rest, renewal, refreshment!  Have a happy Independence Day Weekend!

Sunday, July 6 – In the Gospel for this Sunday, Matthew 11 (see below), Jesus invites us to bring all our heavy burdens to him, and HE will give us rest.  What are the burdens weighing you down?  Work? Family? Financial insecurity? Doubt?  Guilt and shame?  Come to worship at 9:30 on July 6 and let’s share our burdens and our strength through Jesus Christ.  Lemonade on the Lawn to follow!

Thank you, thank you! to all who have made generous donations for the extra supplies for our Weird Animals VBS (7/20-7/24).  We now have the money we need to provide an awesome experience for the kids.  Please continue to bring in small bottles of water and juice boxes through July 20th.  Registration forms are in the church, or you can e-mail the Church Office and request a form be e-mailed to you.

The Annual Beef Roast is coming up quickly – Saturday, August 2 starting at 5:30 PM at the Springtown Rod and Gun Club.  Tickets will be available in church the next several Sundays, or you can request tickets by calling or e-mailing the Church Office.  $500 of the proceeds will go to the purchase of “Stop Hunger Now” food packets for the September 7 “God’s Work Our Hands” event.  The balance will help out our youth and adults attending the 2015 ELCA National Youth Event in Detroit.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 ‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’
