Pastor’s Weekly E-Mail Message for October 19, 2014

CROP Walk Sunday is here!  Sunday, October 19 – Walk to end hunger! It’s not too late to become a walker, even if you haven’t gotten any pledges.  Come and join a host of folks from Durham and other Palisades Lutheran Cluster congregations as we walk down the Delaware River Towpath.  Here’s the schedule for the day:

10:30 AM     – At worship there will be special prayers and a send-off for all our walkers — children, youth, and adults of all ages.  Walkers can seek pledges after worship.  Non-walkers can make monetary contributions to walkers, checks payable to “CWS/CROP.”

12:30 PM     – Registration at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riegelsville.  T-shirts will be handed out and prayers will be offered.

1:00 PM      – We begin the walk – either a 1 mile or 6 mile walk – you choose!  Along the way there will be tattoos, a scavenger hunt, a water-carrying contest, snacks, and portable potties.  We will have fun as we fight hunger!  Our goal is to raise $5,000 this year, 25% of which will be shared by Riegelsville Meals on Wheels and the Lord’s Pantry.  Let’s everybody be there at worship Sunday to begin a wonderful day!

What about our scripture theme for the worship service on October 19th??? Who do you pay taxes to — Caesar or God?  Who is most important in your life — Caesar or God?  Read Matthew 22:15-22 (below) to prepare for worship.  The Spark Sunday School will begin exploring “The First Sin” at 9 AM.  Adult Bible School will continue in the Gospel of Luke.

Trick-or-Treating anyone?  October 31 is coming soon.  How about a safe and fun opportunity to collect treats?  Try “Trunk or Treat” – Friday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church, 2170 Route 212, Pleasant Valley.  Have little ones whose feet give out so you have to carry them?  Do YOUR feet give out before the kids do?  Tired of the stop and go driving because the houses are so far apart?  A little concerned about the safety of the treats given to your children?  The solution is “Trunk or Treat!”  Call Trinity Lutheran at 610-346-7282 if you have questions about this fun Halloween experience.
