Pastor’s Weekly Email Message – February 22, 2015

Snow … Wind … coooollllddd!  Life has been challenging for all of us.  Sorry for last Sunday’s cancellation of Sunday School and the Congregational Meeting.  In light of the forecast for bad weather again this coming weekend, the Congregational Covered Dish Dinner and Annual Meeting have been indefinitely postponed.  Copies of the Annual Report are available in the Narthex.

By the way, in the case of questionable weather – storms, extreme cold, etc. – if you are unsure of worship, soup supper, etc., check cable TV Channel 69 WFMZ .  Notices of cancellation or re-scheduling will be posted under Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham.

We hope to begin Lent this week with Ash Wednesday Worship Services and Soup Supper.  Schedule for Wednesday, February 18:

1:00 PM   Spoken Communion Service with Ashes

4-6:30 PM    Soup Supper (Ashes Available)

7:30 PM    Communion with Music and Ashes

This Sunday, February 22, at worship we will celebrate the Baptism of Benjamin Llewellyn Williams with his parents, sister, godparents, and grandparents.  Weather-permitting, that is!

The Lenten Midweek Series – “Holden Prayer Around the Cross”, which is co-sponsored by Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham; Trinity Lutheran, Pleasant Valley; and Christ Lutheran, Springtown, will begin next Thursday, February 26, and will continue on Thursday evenings throughout Lent.  A light supper will be served starting at 6:00 PM, with worship starting at 7:00 PM.  The worship is quiet, reflective, contemplative, and consists of candlelight, brief readings, silence, and prayer.  The schedule is:

February 26 – Trinity

March 5 – Durham

March 12 – Christ

March 19 – Trinity

March 26 – Durham

Please come and let God prepare you during these 40 days for the joy of Easter!
