Pastor’s Weekly Email Message – February 7, 2016

So you think the Super Bowl is a big deal?  You haven’t seen anything yet!  February 7th is also the SOUPER Bowl of Caring, where many thousands of Christians, and other folks across the US will all donate soup and other canned goods to help the hungry.  Once again we will be collecting here at ELC of Durham, at 10:30 AM this Sunday.  You can also make a $$$ donation that will go to the two food pantries we support – the Lord’s Pantry and ProJect of Easton.

Worship will focus on the glorious mystery of Christ’s Transfiguration.  And then, after worship, we will hold our Annual Congregational Meeting, acknowledging the faithful ministry of so many in this congregation, electing new Church Council members, and more.  There will be light snacks and beverages provided, which we will enjoy while the meeting is being conducted.  So, you will get home in plenty of time for the “football” Super Bowl party and game.

Lent begins next week – A season of spiritual renewal, prayer, and re-dedication as Jesus’ disciples.  There will be two services on Ash Wednesday, February 10:  at 1:00 PM a spoken service of Holy Communion and ashes, and at 7:30 PM Holy Communion with Ashes, Music, and Choir.

Make sure you put down on your calendars our 2nd and final Soup Supper for 2016 – Wednesday, February 17 from 4 to 6:30 PM.  Eat in/takeout – soups are Cream of Broccoli and Chicken Noodle, with all proceeds benefitting the hungry.  Our January Soup Supper was fantastic, we ran out of soup!  And we raised more than $1300.  See you at the next one in ten days!
