Pastor’s Weekly Email Message – January 18, 2015

Brothers and sisters in Christ – LISTEN!  Did you hear God calling you?  God is calling YOU!!!  You are “Beloved” by God – accepted – forgiven – and now, God has a mission for you!  You are a disciple (which means follower of Jesus.)  Come and hear more about this calling, as we hear from Samuel (Old Testament), and Philip and Nathaniel (New Testament).  Together in worship, we can be empowered to say, “Here I am, Lord, send me.”  Worship at 10:30 AM on January 18 is with Holy Communion.

Our Baby Jesus crèche figure has returned!  The figure was found in the Upper Black Eddy area.  Due to the persistent efforts of the Tinicum Police (Bucks County) and the article run by the Express Times (Easton) newspaper, Sergeant Phelan of the Tinicum Police returned the baby us on Wednesday, January 14.  We are very grateful for the interest and help of both the newspaper and the police.  This whole experience is a reminder to us that God is with us – Jesus is with us in all things, whether we can see him or not.

Are you collecting your soup and other non-perishables for the Souper Bowl of Caring on February 1?  Bring your food in each of the next 3 Sundays.  And, if you’d like to make a monetary contribution to the food pantries we support, bring cash or a check on February 1.  Make checks payable to ELC of Durham, with Souper Bowl of Caring in the Memo line.

Speaking of soup … We’ve got a Soup Supper coming up next week, on Wednesday, January 21 from 4 to 6:30 PM.  The soups are Vegetable Beef or Cream of Potato.  The cost to eat in is $6 for adults, $3 for kids aged 6-12, with kids 5 and under free.  This includes bread, beverage, and dessert.  Take out is $6 per quart, please bring your own quart jars if you can.  All proceeds from the Soup Suppers go to fight hunger near and far.

Some important dates to remember:

Sunday, February 1 – Souper Bowl of Caring and Healing Service  (more details to come)

Sunday, February 8 – Scout Sunday (more details to come)

Sunday, February 15 – Annual Congregational Meeting, preceded by worship and covered dish dinner.  The snow date is  February 22.

Don’t forget!  You are “Baptized and Beloved by God” – and God can use you for a mission of love and mercy to one another and the world!
