Pastor’s Weekly Email Message – November 15

People of God – it is truly a time to give thanks!

  • For the daily bread constantly provided us by God, food, family, shelter, friendship, government.
  • For what God is able to do through God’s people – God’s Work Our Hands.

Did you hear?  The ELCA has exceeded its fundraising goal of $15 million to defeat Malaria – and we were part of that campaign!

Did you hear?  Both Liberia and Sierra Leone have been declared Ebola Free, and we were part of that through the “Stop Ebola” campaign.

Did you hear?  77 walkers raised more than $5,000 at this past October’s Palisades Area CROP Walk, and we at ELC of Durham were part of that.

Did you hear?  Matthew Mueller, Emma, Alivia, and Charlotte Humphreys have raised well over $100 each, as they participate in the “SleepOUT 4 Homelessness” event this Saturday, November 14, at Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton.  We are grateful to these youth and to Georgana Humphreys, who will be sleeping out, too!

There is so much for which to give thanks to God!  Don’t forget to give generously through the “Thanksgiving” envelope in your 2015 offering envelope box.  This offering is designated for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.

Would you like to serve as a volunteer with AHUB (Advocates for the Homeless of Upper Bucks – Code Blue) this winter, December 1 through March 31?  Training is offered this Sunday afternoon, November 15, at 3:30 PM at the Masonic Lodge, 501 W. Broad Street in Quakertown.  Come and learn about the many ways you could choose to volunteer.

As you begin shopping for Christmas gifts, a reminder that by shopping through Amazon Smile, you can designate SEPA Synod of the ELCA to receive a portion of the profit from what you spend.  To shop, visit

The new, Fall 2015 Church Directory will be available in the Narthex starting this Sunday, November 15.  Don’t forget to pick up a copy!
