CROP walkers and givers … YOU DID IT AGAIN! On a chilly Sunday afternoon (October 18) scores of walkers from the Palisades area walked to end hunger one step at a time. Up and down the Delaware Canal Towpath we walked and talked and toted gallons of water (a special challenge) to help make life easier for neighbors near and far. This year, messages were posted along the route educating us about the special needs of people globally for clean, adequate water and ample food.
A Special shout out to walkers from ELC of Durham – and we had a bunch of them… Ken Anderson (and dog); Alaina Apgar; Austin Apgar; Pastor Deal; Helen Dungan; Darlene Durns; Nancy Fox; George Kreitz (along 2 more Kreitz’s); Joan and Frank Mammana; Wayne Mesko; Matthew Mueller; Kerri, Sam, Allison, and Emerson Rhine (that’s right! The twins strolled, too); Beth and Luke Snyder; Linda Sauter; and Jill Williams. If I counted correctly, that’s 22 men, women, and children, and 1 dog! Thanks too, to you, their sponsors! We don’t have a final $$$ count yet, but it’s estimated that Durham sponsors gave well over $1,000! As a result of our walking and giving, local recipients Meals on Wheels and the Lord’s Pantry, along with men women and children all over the world will be assisted with good water and more adequate food. God’s work – Our hand and feet and offerings!
The Grace of God – After all these centuries, we people of God still haven’t quite gotten what God’s grace is all about. That grace was showered on Adam and Eve, Cain, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Moses and the Israelites, Paul, Martin Luther, and so on and so on. And that grace has been poured over us. But we still have trouble understanding and receiving grace for what God intends: God’s love and forgiveness freely given. Well, here’s another chance to hear about it and receive it – This Sunday, Reformation Sunday – October 25 at 10:30 AM. Come and heart about it retold in “Nadia’s Story of Grace.”
Special Movie Night – Friday, October 23 at 6:30 PM – Come and see “Luther” – sponsored by ELC of Durham and Palisades Youth, featuring pizza, pretzels, and pop. Interested adults may attend as well. The movie will be shown downstairs in our fellowship hall.
FALL BACK – Remember, Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 AM on November 1. So, when you go to bed on Halloween Night, be sure to set your clocks back one hour and enjoy an extra hour of sleep!
