Pastor’s Weekly Email Message – October 4, 2015

A celebration is coming!  This Sunday, October 4, we will celebrate with Christ’s whole church as Christopher Moyer, Alison and Emerson Rhine receive the Gift of Baptism.  ALSO:  October 4 is the church day of St. Francis of Assisi, lover of the natural creation and of animals.  During the prayers on Sunday, we will have a blessing of pets.  You are invited to bring a picture of your pet to be placed around the worship space by our church windows.  The theme of worship:  “Who are the little children?”

Important dates you do not want to forget:

Saturday, October 10 from 1-5 PM – “Durham Community Day: down by the mill and historic post office. ELC of Durham will have our own spot from which we can mingle with our neighbors and visitors.

Sunday, October 18 – CROP Walk, beginning with 12:30 PM registration at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Riegelsville.  The Walk ( 1 mile or 4 miles) will officially begin at 1:00 PM.  Do you have your pledge forms yet?  Or, if you’re not going to walk, have you given a pledge to one of our walkers?  You have 3 more Sundays to help us end hunger “one step at a time.”

Special Movie Night – Friday, October 23 at 6:30 PM  (This was not in  your newsletter)  Featured movie is “Luther,” a 2003 production starring Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther, the brilliant servant of God, whose defiant actions changed the world.  It’s all about grace!  Beautiful scenery, great acting, well worth your time as you see how one man’s faith in God launched the greatest revolution of all.  Our Confirmation and older youth will be here to view the movie.  Come join us!  And, if you can, bring a movie snack to share.  Root Beer and Pretzels will be provided.
