Congratulations to all of our Care-A-Lot kids and their families as they had closing programs on May 28 and 29. School has ended for the Spring. Registrations are being accepted for the new year (Fall 2014-Spring 2015).
Sunday, June 1 – It’s still Easter! That’s right, the 7th Sunday of Easter. The Sermon is titled “No Need to be Afraid – YOU have the Power to Witness.” To get ready for Sunday you can read in your Bibles Acts 1:6-14, 1 Peter 4:12-15; 5:6-11, and John 17:1-11. As you read, consider these questions: Why do I just stand there in the world, looking up to heaven? Am I afraid? Am I too busy? Do I believe the Spirit has given me the power to witness to the risen Lord’s love?
Our new Connections small group began last Sunday. We had a great start talking about the lessons for the next Sunday. Come and join us this Sunday at 9 AM.
Katie Aquino and Clayton Leichliter are anxiously awaiting their Confirmation on Sunday, June 8, the Day of Pentecost. It’s going to be quite a celebration! Lots of red, so wear red if you can! There will be a special Lemonade on the Lawn reception for Katie and Clayton after worship.
Weird Animals Vacation Bible School is coming in less than 2 months, from July 20-24. We have a top-notch team of leaders and helpers already in place: Pastor Deal, Carolyn Williams, Barbara Naska, Ben and Tanya Naska, Kerri Rhine, Joan Mammana, Tom Gaun, Joe Hlavaty, Betty Kreitz, Val McGinn, and Ann Wong have stepped up so far. We’re looking for more help! We need adults to help with the pre-school group, and could use more help in the kitchen, as well as youth to help with games, crafts, etc. Let me know if you’re available!
Everybody can help with materials and supplies. To begin with, we need small bottles of water and drink boxes. We also need your monetary support. Our 2014 VBS budget is $300. So far, we have spent nearly $400 for the Group Publishing Weird Animal materials. We expect our total expenses to be between $500-$600. So, we’re asking our community of faith for donations to VBS – you can make your check payable to “ELC of Durham” with “VBS donation” in the memo line. Together we can make this the best VBS experience ever!
