CHURCH LIFE

 

Bible Study

Bible Study is normally held on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM in the Sanctuary.  Check out this page for up-to-date information on the current class.

 

Care-A-Lot

Care-A-Lot Preschool is a Christian preschool with separate classes for three and four year-olds and joint classes (Community Day) on Fridays.  Care-A-Lot now also has a Youth Group for school-aged children that meets on Friday evenings.

Christian Education - Sunday School and Vacation Bible School

Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM.  Vacation Bible School runs for a week of evenings in the summer.  This year's dates are Sunday-Thursday, July 8 -12,   6:30 – 8:30 PM.  Click here for more information.

 

Church Council

The Church Council is the governing body of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham. The Church Council meets monthly.  Council agendas and minutes are published here.

Finance and Stewardship

        Evangelical Lutheran is a participant in the "Ventures" stewardship program.  Using the techniques of the Ventures Program combined with Consecration Sunday, we have increased our giving by 15%! We are not a pledging church.

Music

Outreach and Mission

        The Outreach Committee, led by Helen Dungan, sponsors monthly activities to fulfill the mission statement of Evangelical Lutheran  to care for the real human needs of our neighbors. In addition to its regular yearly mission support at the Conference level, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Durham has been proud to support Rachel and Mary Crouse in their various mission travels, as well as Katrina Relief mission trips by the Pastor and congregation members Betty and George Kreitz and Ben and Barbara Naska.  Visit the Outreach and Mission page for photos of the mission trips.

Vacation Bible School

    Each summer (except during the Floods!) Evangelical Lutheran sponsors Vacation Bible School.  Visit this page for information about this summer's VBS.

WELCA   

        WELCA sponsors monthly activities aimed at enriching the spiritual lives of the women of Evangelical Lutheran.  Helen Dungan is the current President of WELCA.  WELCA also works very closely with the Outreach Committee to support the wider mission of Evangelical Lutheran.

Worship

        Worship takes place every Sunday morning, starting at 10:30 AM from September to June, and 9:00 AM during the summer months.  Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and on Festival Sundays, as well as on Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday.  Visit this page for worship highlights for the month.
